One of my all-time favorite designers, Kris Van Assche has already at 32 worked for or spearheaded some of the best fashion houses out there. His work for Dior (in my opinion) trumps Hedi Slimane (who I didn't think could be replaced), and has brought the label to even classier heights. His own label is emerging as one of the top labels to date, and he seems to be unstoppable. The shoes are some of the best designs/shapes/most cutting edge I have seen in high-tops, which is hard to do when every shoe out there looks the same right now! Simple lines, classic shapes re-thought, and an immaculate attention to detail - I definitely aspire to be at his level someday.
Bio from his website:
Kris Van Assche was born in Belgium in 1976. Shortly after graduating from the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts, he moved to Paris in 1998. After working with Hedi Slimane at Yves Saint Laurent and then for Dior Homme, he began to show his original creations in January 2005. Today he heads his own label, KRIS VAN ASSCHE, and artistic director for Dior Homme since april 2007.

Dior Homme store, Paris
Commissioned by Dior Homme artistic director Kris Van Assche, the Dior Homme store in Paris was given a fresh new installation by Italian artist Andrea Mastrovito. Inspired by the 2008 fall/winter collection, the artwork features 9,000 fantasy like butterfly silhouettes making their way through the boutiques white walls and ceiling. The installation will remain open until the end of the year after which the whimsical butterfly’s will disappear into the sunset.
