French's Art Show 'Initiation'
This is a video French made of his first week here in the states.
Richard Bernhard Merryweather Sayer III (French), arrived last week for the set up and reception for his and Dereks show "Initiation". Me and Alana figured that he worked so hard he deserved a little present, so naturally a bouquet of pink flowers was our first choice, a bottle of gatorade the second (I had heard there was whiskey there). Whiskey was drank, art was admired, and glass was broken, I say the reception was perfect. More to come after French paints our store next week!

Berlin designer arndt menke- zumbragel is the creator of this unique bicycle made using wood. the project began by investigating the use of wood as a construction material, paying close attention to its particular considerations. the result is a fully functional bike that weighs only 2.3 kg. with some special metal parts and carefully constructed wood pieces, arndt has created a bike that blends new and old together into one unique package.

S.A.R.S.
After being in China for 5 weeks, coming back and being sick still after 1 1/2 weeks, Josh is officially on quarantine.
Kern River
We took a two day Whitewater rafting trip down the Kern river up by Bakersfield CA a couple weekends ago. It was awesome to get out of the city and reminded me of Kansas a little. The river was pretty gnarly in some spots but as 'novice's' we were only allowed to do class 4 rapids. The best was the whirlpool where the 1st try I got thrown out the boat in like 20 seconds and spin cycled under it Sonic The Hedgehog style; second try, kinda weak, only lost a couple peeps; third try, me and the guide Javi, rode the boat (for what felt like 2 hrs.)like a mechanical bull after everyone got pitched over the side.They had pit stops set up for lunch the first day, camping that night, and lunch the next day and all the food was amazing (for being on a river).

Inspiration From Weird Places
Stemming from 1800's workwear, denim has pretty much been established as a mandatory in everyones closet. In order to be ahead of all the other 409580398509820 million companies out there producing denim I have to take inspiration from strange places some times. Reverting back to denim's roots for ideas usually provides a few answers. Back then it was strictly a functional necessity for certain jobs, mainly blue-collar (the term comes from the workers wearing blue denim shirts and cover-alls that withstood the elements), and considered low-brow in common society as everyday wear.The turn of the century newsies had that laid back, ruffled, don't give a fuck style that always turns up in menswear today, thus, my inspiration for today.

Careful, it gets deep....
Moving to LA was the best thing that I have done for myself in my life. It was the scariest too. I came here basically on my own and have now turned that into a life that I love and am proud of. I went through some really tough times at first and then again a couple of years ago but the things I've gained from those experiences are irreplaceable (not in the beyonce sense...). I found my soulmate, landed a dream job, travelled the world, and met some amazing people. And yet all this time the fact that we live on some of the most amazing coastline in the country is usually at the very back of my mind. We took a lil trip to the beach in Malibu today and it reminded me how much I appreciate where I'm at and where I've been. Thinking about it now makes me wonder if all of this is in some way a gift from my father in the infinite beyond. After all the things he did for me and my sisters I can't help but think that he is still out there striving to make our lives better in any way that he can to make up for a lot of the things that he didn't have growing up. I guess thats just my way of holding on to the idea that somehow, some way, his spirit/essence/energy/whatever you want to call it, is still out there. Either way, I owe everything to him and I just want to say thanks Dad.
